Author Judith Doloughan Dies; Finishes FRATERFAMILIAS & Two Sequels

It is with great sadness that we must tell you that Judith Doloughan, one of the authors of the popular mystery/crime eSerial FRATERFAMILIAS, died on June 5th. Ms. Doloughan wrote the book with her writing partner, author Paula R. Stiles, under the pseudonym Peter Ferrer. They had recently completed the eSerial version of the novel, which spans 100 issues and was just released as an eBook. She was 63 years old.

"We were very sad to learn that Judith passed away, as we recently celebrated our first year in business, and FRATERFAMILIAS was the first story we accepted for publication," said Dave A. Law, Chairman of Virtual Tales. "We knew she had been battling cervical cancer for some time, but she continued to work on FRATERFAMILIAS with Paula for the past year, despite her illness. She will be greatly missed by everyone at Virtual Tales, as well as devoted readers of the story."

Judith Doloughan was born in England during WW2 and moved to Canada when she was eight. She has lived for most of her life on the West Coast, in both Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia. She earned a BS in Biology from the University of Victoria and a MS in Marine Engineering from the Canadian Coast Guard College in 1986. While working for the Coast Guard, she sailed all the way around North America, from the Arctic to the Panama Canal. In addition to her first novel, FRATERFAMILIAS, which was written with co-author Paula R. Stiles under the pen name Peter Ferrer, Ms. Doloughan also completed a second novel, SOLITUDE, before she passed away.

According to Ms. Stiles, "Judith went peacefully; I don't think she suffered at the end. I will be looking into getting SOLITUDE published as soon as possible, as well as another novel, ALEC, which I'll complete for her and probably publish under our pseudonym. We also completed two sequels to FRATERFAMILIAS and parts of two others. I would like to thank everyone who passed along their support, and our FRATERFAMILIAS fans. Judith and I both appreciated it."

As a tribute to Judith, we will be offering a very special price on FRATERFAMILIAS as next week's "e-mail list only" promotion, and will donate all Virtual Tales proceeds to the National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC).

Virtual Tales to Publish New Irish Fiction by Jack Scoltock

Virtual Tales announced the acquisition of a new General Fiction title, "Golden Weddin' and the B.V.M.," by renowned Irish author Jack Scoltock. Set in modern day Derry, Ireland, this is the story of a 50th wedding anniversary celebration gone awry, as seen through the eyes of their teenage granddaugher Kerry. While the fractious family plans the momentous celebration, Kerry is more interested in her apparition of the Blessed Virgin (B.V.M.). She told Kerry that she would appear again, and Kerry wants her friends to see her. But an unexpected guest at the party changes everything.

Jack Scoltock is Derry's most published children's writer. He was born in Derry, Ireland, in 1942 and has lived there all his life. "Golden Weddin' and the B.V.M." is his second work for ePublisher Virtual Tales. His first Virtual Tales title, "First Communion: A Collection of Modern Irish Stories," is an anthology that gives readers a rare glimpse of everyday life in modern Northern Ireland, visiting the small towns and byways to see how everyday people live, love and thrive in the midst of religious and political strife. Like his "First Communion" anthology, "Golden Weddin' and the B.V.M." is a departure from Jack's mainstream children's fiction writing, presenting adult themes as witnessed by youth, who must struggle to make sense of their situation. First Anniversary Celebration Kicks Off Today!

We'll be celebrating our first year in business throughout the month of June with a host of limited-time sales and promotions. To help you plan, we've set up a general calendar in the "Calendar" feature of our Yahoo Group that briefly describes our scheduled promotions. What it doesn't tell you, however, is exactly when each of these promotions will be in effecton the website.

There are two ways to find out when these promotions will actually take place. If you sign up for our newsletter e-mail list, you will receive an e-mail each Friday in June that will list the promotions going on during the upcoming week, as well as the times they will be in effect.

Another clue that will help you remember that a special is being offered will appear on the main page of our website. When the picture of the birthday cupcake is replaced by an animated birthday cake, that means there's something going on and you can press the link under the cake to find out more.

Thank you for your support and your business in our first year.
